Artisans Converge at The Opposite House for Wild China’s Beshan Gāi

(Beijing, 13 September 2016) – Following last year’s successful collaboration, The Opposite House is pleased to once again host Wild China’s Beshan Gāi Artisan Bazaar. Happening over two days on 24 and 25 September from 11am to 6pm, the hotel’s Atrium and outdoor venues will be transformed into a rustic, market setting, where guests may enjoy browsing a selection of hand-woven Xinjiang carpets, Tibetan jewellery and local foods, as well as a series of ethnic Yunnan entertainment.

This year’s Beshan Gāi will showcase more than 50 selected artisans from different regions across China, including Xinjiang and Yunnan. Artisans have been invited to bring their hand-crafted treasures to sell at the bazaar.

During the two-day event, Village Café, the casual dining outlet of The Opposite House, will be serving the popular Village Fried Rice, using Farmer Yang’s specially cured Yunnan ham. Known for its deep, smoky flavour, Yunnan ham offers a less salty yet very flavourful taste. In China, Yunnan ham serves as a more minor but nevertheless vital gastronomic role. Combined with the Village Fried Rice, Yunnan ham will reveal a sweet-salty richness.

“Beshan Gāi vendors are carefully selected for their craftsmanship and unique stories. The hotel’s partnership with Wild China further emphasises our beliefs in sustainability, preserving tradition and caring for the environment,” says Mark Passmore, General Manager of The Opposite House.

Visitors may also browse a selection of vendors offering yak wool textiles, aged traditional rice wine, hand-tufted carpets, traditional hand-made paper umbrellas and hand-painted ceramics among many others.
